Tornado watches stretch from TX to WI across the mid section of the country. According to the weather channel the chance for tornadoes continues thru the weekend.

Dang the watch area is growing. At this time of night one would usually expect the activity to ease a bit.

It's not going to. The cold air aloft is COOLING, but the warm air is remaining WARM and WET!
Remember that water STAYS warm longer than air, and there is ALOT of water on the ground in those areas, causing convectional heating.. so the lower air is staying warmer than usual... -
The same on shore flow of air that is driving the oil slick onto the beaches on the gulf is the same one thats feeding this storm system. -

I'm in Nashville now and come across I24E across KY last night. According to wx reports I was within 10 miles of 3 different tornados. Too close for comfort.

According to the weather channel about an hr ago parts of 24, 40 and 65 were or are closed due to flooding on the interstate.
