I come through the gorge earlier. There's still one lane closed near the TN-NC line. Westbound was backed up 15 miles at least. It took me an extra hour 15 to get through it.

I-26E was also backed up 8 miles for construction between mm 59 and 67

    Stay far away! :)

I went through the gorge about 3 weeks ago on a Sunday... no signs of an active construction zone then. Both westbound lanes were open. Must be something they just started...

I rarely run it anymore. Heading to or from the Greensboro/High Point area 81/77 is usually faster anyway.

I run it four times a week. Come thru WB about 6:30-7:00 pm and back thru EB about an hour later. It can get interesting. I get a chuckle out of the guys who are whiteknuckled going 30-35...and there are always at least one doing it with traffic backed up behind 'em.

They opened both lanes temporarily for the holiday traffic.

It was the same one lane at the rock slide. Just moved down the road a little.

Probably a mad rush of weekend vacationers headed to Gatlinburg, TN. They go there for watching the leaves change color or something. Exciting weekend! Woohooo, look that one turned red!

Snicker! That one isn't even all that challenging. Bet they'd have fun on the road up Mt. Evans in CO! Lots of sheer drop-offs.
