Update: Another Levee Down In Southwest Iowa

Percival, IA - Residents living in the town of Percival were ordered out of town early Thursday morning after a flood waters breach a levee north of town. As the water flows through fields, road officials in Iowa quickly shut down another large stretch of Interstate 29 to protect drivers.

Here's a good video of I29 around Missouri Valley, just north of Omaha. Gives you a better perspective of the scope of flooding going on.

Who knows. When the water receeds, surveyors will need to come out and look at the highway. Worst case scenario: Bridges will need to be repaired, which could take a few years.

I miss going to that Sapp Bros off IA-2.

Not at this point. But they expect this water to be there for months, not days. So its safe to assume that there will have to be extensive work done to I29 after it recedes. We may not see I29 open until some time in 2012.

Yeah, my cb has been unable to transmit for a couple months now. I was trying to make it up there while the repair guy was there with his van. Just as I'd gotten run that would get me there at the right time, it all went under.

Some of it is expected to open by Christmas some of it as late as 2013. In some areas bridges have shifted and erosion has eaten 60 ft down to bedrock.

That 59 detour is gonna be a major pita once winter hits.
