Before exit 170 everyone is pulled over putting on chains. If you're not comfortable with these conditions, best to stay in Sacramento at exit 85 Pilot. There is nowhere else for trucks to stop going Eastbound on I-80.

There's lot of places to park between Roseville and Applegate. Just gotta be creative.

And have x-ray vision. Isn't the snow from February still piled up everywhere 3 feet deep, at least?

Waited 12 hours and chain requirement was lifted, went on through to our destination in Reno. It was truly amazing how little snow remained in that short of time. Absolutely none on the highway, and very little on the ground until we got past exit 174 EB. A few hours after we got to Sparks, Donner Pass was closed again. We got through just in time. Glad our company doesn't allow us to move when chains are required.

Just got a load assignment taking us back over the pass. It's snowing right now and Cal Trans expects chain controls to be put in place sometime this evening. I don't think we'll make it to Salinas today. Produce runs this time of year aren't helping the checkbook balance.

    Yeah, I know, they'd call us "Whuss's".

But it is kinda nice not being pushed that way when we're new.
I know...we're being babysat...better than being a 3 wk solo that we met today in Sparks who didn't know he'd better find some chains. His dispatcher actually told him no chains were needed to haul his load over Donner Pass to Cali. We warned him...Also advised him not to listen to his dispatcher. We won't say what company that guy was with.

Don't be pushed that way after you've been "out here awhile either". Not gonna get preachy but:There are no "do-overs". But there are other jobs. Never get out of your comfort zone for anyone. Think about it..Stay Cool and Safe..:)
