Grapevine Reopens After Closure Grapevine Reopens After Closure 2/28/07 Quote: BAKERSFIELD - The CHP reopened the Grapevine Wednesday mid-morning after it was closed due icy conditions. The CHP warns motorists to expect delays. A big rig jackknifed near Gorman shortly before 5 a.m. and several cars hit the center divider in the Fort Tejon area. The CHP had been escorting traffic over the Grapevine overnight. The Grapevine was closed around 5:30 a.m. It reopened around 8:30 Wednesday morning. At 7:15 a.m., the California Highway Patrol brought a group of vehicles over the Grapevine to see if it was safe. Icy conditions could lead to closures elsewhere. Highway 58, highway 155 and highway 178 near Walker pass remain open, but CHP officer Greg Williams says the status could change at any time. The following school districts are closed due to ice or snow: Caliente, El Tejon, Kern Valley, Kernville District-all schools in the Kernville Unified School District, South Fork District, and Tehachapi. article
