Tour bus driver dies in crash with 18-wheeler

Tour bus driver dies in crash with 18-wheeler
5/5/07
Quote:
AL
MUSCLE SHOALS - The driver of a tour bus was killed just after midnight this morning when the bus he was driving smashed into the rear end of an 18-wheeler on Alabama 20/Alabama 157, authorities said.

The victim’s name was not immediately available.

The man, who was driving for Anchor Tours, was thrown from the bus and ended up about 200 yards from where the bus and 18-wheeler, flatbed truck came to a stop. His body ended up in the medium on Alabama 157.

Both vehicles were traveling west on Alabama 157 at the time. The impact of the crash locked the bus to the rear of the truck and sparked a fire that scorched the front section of the bus. It appeared the driver was thrown through the front windshield.

There weren’t any passengers on the bus, emergency workers at the scene said. The crash site was directly in front of Arnold’s Truck Stop.

The driver of the truck nor his wife, who was traveling with him, were injured seriously. The couple made the trip to the Shoals from Canada to pick up a shipment from the Wise Alloys plant in Lister Hill.

State troopers are investigating the crash.

It is with a heavy heart when i write this. The driver of the tour bus was my father-in-law. I am in the process of taking emergency leave to go home and be with my wife and mother-in-law. I found out about this horrible event about 2:30 this morning. I am just glad that there were no passengers on the bus and that my dad didn't feel anything. We were told by state troopers that he died on impact.

I am so sorry, Hev... and please extend my sincerest sympathy to your wife and her family. To lose someone so suddenly and unexpectedly is difficult and I will certainly keep you all in my prayers.

Be safe in your journey home, Hev... and know that our thoughts are with you...

Hugs,

Ducks
