Are you not suppose to know how high your load is on a flat bed and couldn't the driver realize it wasn't going to make it? I feel for the trucker's family

That was terrible mistake to make, driver could not have measured the hight right if he got a special permit, maybe the company was sving money by just getting an overweight permit and not an oversize permit,if they had the right permits they probably would have been routed around that bridge, and if there was an escort vehicle the escorts height stick would have warned them way ahead of time. To me looks like an inexperienced oversized hauling driver error, you never not know the measurements how high and wide, and the driver should always measure those demensions himself, and keep aware of his routes and bridge heights before he gets there by mapping the whole route out before hand, and being aware of all of his or her surroundings. What a terrible error, that poor other driver never knew what hit him that fast, don't know how close he was following but, what a tragedy. I feel for his family, may god bless all of them.
