Trucking firm files suit

Trucking firm files suit

CANTON — An Arkansas-based trucking company is suing two Canton men over an auto accident that caused an explosion on an I-55 bridge near the Nissan water tower.
On May 1, a driver for J.B. Hunt Transport Inc. crashed into the back of a pickup. The big rig ignited and burned for hours, but no one was seriously injured.
J.B. Hunt is alleging that Curtis Harris Jr. and Alvin Maxey, driver and owner of the pickup, respectively, were negligent and are responsible for the accident.
The lawsuit, which states one side's legal argument, was filed Monday in Madison County Circuit Court.
J.B. Hunt is seeking compensation for its trailer, use of the trailer and cargo, in addition to being reimbursed for the money paid to the Mississippi Department of Transportation for damage to the interstate.
Maxey said Tuesday afternoon that he was not aware of the lawsuit. He didn't understand why he was being sued, he said.
"Their driver hit my truck from the back when it was driving down the road," he said. "(The pickup) was totalled, completely demolished."
Maxey, 77, was not there when the collision happened.
