Scary moment for a truck driver Saturday afternoon when his semi truck catches fire on a busy Kern County highway.

Authorities say flames started tearing through a truck loaded with peanuts on westbound Highway 58, west of General Beale Road just after 5 p.m. Saturday.

The semi's cab is a total loss, along with the peanuts, and the trailer was partially damaged.

Officials believe the fire broke out because of defective brakes.

Highway 58 was closed for a short time, but has now been reopened.
