Big Rig Accident Causes Evacuations East of SA

An accident involving an 18-Wheeler is prompting evacuations near Gonzales, east of San Antonio.

The accident happened on Highway 183, 3 miles north of Gonzales. According to officials, the big rig was traveling northbound on 183 when a Lincoln Town Car in the southbound lane crossed over and hit the 18-wheeler.

The 18-wheeler was carrying detonators. Although there was no explosion or fire, officials are closing Highway 183 from Gonzales to IH-10 as a precaution. The truck's cargo is slowly being reloaded onto another truck.
People within a 2 mile radius around the accident (approximately 100 families) have been evacuated from the area.
Officials said cleaning up the accident scene could take some time. The evacuation could last anywhere from 2-8 hours.
