PINE BLUFF, Ark. - A woman who worked at a state prison and her four young children were killed when their car was struck by an 18-wheeler, and the truck driver was jailed on pending charges.

Roy Lee Jordan, 57, of Benton, Miss., was arrested after Saturday's crash on U.S. 425 four miles south of Pine Bluff. He was jailed in Jefferson County and was scheduled to appear in court Monday, a jailer said.

LaKetria Wells, 26, of Monticello was killed along with her children: LaKiyah Wells, 7; Kaleb Jarrell Stokes, 5; Keyshon Wells, 4; and LaKayla Wells, 2. The woman had been a correctional officer at Cummins prison since April 2006, according to state Correction Department spokeswoman Dina Tyler.

"To have all of them go at once, and in the manner they did, I tell you, everyone out at that scene, from the EMTs to the firefighters to our troopers hurt for that family," Arkansas State Police Sgt. David Sims told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Blood and urine samples were taken to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for drug and alcohol screening, state police said.

Are there mandatory jail sentences when people get killed in wrecks? Like manslaughter charges? I think there should be unless it is shown that the 4 wheeler was driving recklessly.

I read more about this today. The driver admitted to smoking crack, and had no idea how he got onto US 425... Its just a shame.

cracked out drivers

i hate hear about the drugs involved while driving, i was trying to turn around , in virginia somewhere, i took my exit, i took the wrong one, as it was not marked, i followed my qualcom directions to the letter, so anyways, i had to drive for atleast 5 6 or 7 miles to find a place to turn around, so, i am in a parking lot of a warehouse, I need to make a left turn across two lanes of moving traffic going both directions, so, i see this spot and turn into it because i saw another truck sitting in the back of the parking lot, so as i am sitting there waiting for my openeing for traffic to be clear on both sides waich took forever this guy stands up on my passenger side running board /fuel tank and starts talking to us, he is all sweaty it is cold out, he was begging for money, he told us some crap about not being able to get an advance and he needed fuel money we hage him $10 so he would go away , he was all cracked out, he went back to his truck and we drove off. all cracked out pacing, walking sweating.

i have see this sort of things a few times. it is sad.
