two horses die

Otis trucker, two horses die after crash along Oregon 18

Quote:
Gene Alvin Hilby, 59, of Otis died about 1 p.m. today when his dump truck veered across Oregon 18 about a mile east of U.S. 101, drove into a barnyard, struck two horses and a barn, then tipped on its side, the Oregon State Police reported.
An autopsy is tentatively planned Tuesday to check for a medical problem after the driver reported chest pains earlier that day, said Trooper Greg Plummer of the state police Newport office. Hilby, who was not wearing safety restraints, died at the scene.
The crash also killed one horse, and the other suffered severe injuries and was euthanized by a veterinarian. The truck was loaded with about five cubic yards of dirt, some of which spilled.

No fluke
I raise horses and they and are not all that smart unless the horse is saddled and bridled.
They tend to freeze in place.
Still this is terrible and I feel for all involved
