| Three killed in fiery I-80 crash Three killed in fiery I-80 crash 8/9/07 North Platte Bulletin, NE Quote:
All lanes of Interstate 80 were once again open Thursday after a fiery crash that killed three two miles west of Paxton Wednesday evening.
The crash shut down both westbound lanes of traffic on the interstate for several hours Wednesday night.
Killed in the crash was Thomas J. McKeever, 23, of North Glen, Colo. An NSP spokesman said McKeever was moving from Colorado to Iowa. He was driving a Penske rental truck.
Also killed were Steven M. Betters, 28, and Harold D. Lee, 24, both of Birchwood, Tenn. An NSP spokesman said investigators were not sure which man was driving the semi.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, McKeever was eastbound in the rental truck when he lost control of his vehicle. It crossed the median and struck a westbound semi-trailer truck head-on.
Both vehicles burst into flames and were completely destroyed by the fire. The driver and sole occupant of the rental truck was killed, as was the driver and a passenger in the semi-truck, which was carrying carpet.
