Drivers are being warned to avoid the intersection of New Road and Indiana 331 until after 1 p.m. today because of a traffic fatality that closed the road early this morning.

St. Joseph County Police said an elderly woman was killed in the accident, and her husband injured in the wreck between their car and a semi-truck hauling a modular home at 8:19 a.m. today.

Police said the 73-year-old male driver of the car was westbound on New Road and had stopped at the stop sign, and then proceeded to cross Ind. 331. At the same time, a semi-truck hauling a modular home was southbound on Ind. 331. Traffic on Ind. 331 is not required to stop at the intersection with New Road.
