50,000 Pounds Of Watermelons Block I-5 In Sylmar

Quote:
(CBS) SYLMAR, Calif. A big rig overturned on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway, spilling 50,000 pounds of watermelons, which prompted the closure of two lanes and an offramp, authorities said.

The accident occurred at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, just north of Roxford Street near the Los Angeles Reservoir, said California Highway Patrol Officer David Porter.

The No. 4 and 5 lanes as well as the Roxford Street offramp were closed as crews worked to upright the big rig, he said.

It was not immediately clear when the lanes would reopen, Porter said.

Initial reports called into the CHP indicated that another vehicle was involved in the crash, he said.

No injuries were immediately reported, Porter said.
