Fatality Crash

10/3/07
BainbridgeGa.com, GA - VIDEO
A semi driver was killed this morning after his cab struck the rear of a log truck. Highway 84, just west of the city limits, will be completely closed for several hours Wednesday morning.
Specific details of the crash were unavailable because the Georgia State Patrol has called in their Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT). The SCRT team will take whatever time is needed to ascertain exactly was happened.
Our understanding of the crash.
About 5:30 Wednesday morning a semi was heading east on 84 when it struck the rear of a log truck. The collision occurred at the turn lane into Jennifer Drive. The semi continued on, turning across the median and coming to a stop in a field. It is unclear if the log truck was making a turn at the intersection when it was struck.
Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene calling for EMS to get there as quickly as they could. Deputies Michael Cox and Nick Godwin arrived first with others close behind.
Deputies found the semi driver on the ground outside his cab and heard a gasp for breath. Deputy Nick Godwin started CPR and continued until EMS arrived and transported him to the hospital.
State Trooper Walt Landrum was on scene quickly and was joined by Trooper Earl Prince and Cpl Kyle Duke.
The log truck is owned by TS&A Trucking and our understanding is the owner is Joey McMillan of Bainbridge.
