Truck Driver Arrested For Leaving I-270 Accident

Truck Driver Arrested For Leaving I-270 Accident
10/17/07
KSDK, MO -
Quote:
(KSDK) - Tuesday, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers arrested a truck driver for leaving the scene of an accident last week that shut down traffic on Interstate 270.

The accident happened just before 11:00 Wednesday morning. Witnesses say a tractor trailer clipped a car, causing the car to hit the median and flip over. A second semi swerved to avoid the car. It burst into flames as it crashed through a cement barrier and over turned. Neither driver was seriously hurt.

The driver of the first tractor trailer left the scene. Tuesday, he was arrested for felony leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and taken to the St. Louis County jail.

"Anytime you're involved in a motor vehicle crash, there's no reason to leave the scene of the accident," Sgt. Julie Scerine said. "Had he stayed and gave his information, most likely he wouldn't be charged with leaving the scene of an accident."

The man is being held pending the application of warrants from the St. Louis County Prosecutor's Office. The Highway Patrol said the suspect is from Collinsville, Illinois and was identified through witness descriptions and surveillance video of the semi.

Why would someone leave the scene of an accident, and risk losing there CDL?
Stories like this one are screwed up..... Your CDL, is what puts bread on the table, so again, why would someone chance losing that?

It is VERY possible he never felt it and if he wasn't watching the mirror never saw it. This is a tough position to be in if you're the driver.

I feel certain he didn't know he clipped a car.
But after seeing the news realized what happened.

The news report said he stopped first, then took off. Something fishy about that if ya ask me. When someone knocked a parked car into the side of my trailer, I knew it, and pulled over accordingly. But then I'd been watching my mirrors, so I knew it was coming.

Okay, is it just me, or did I miss something here? Of course he wouldn't have been chardged with leaving the scene, because if he had stayed....he wouldn't have left the scene.
Man, the gene pool really needs some chlorine.
