Truck driver passed out, went into bay

The driver of a semi-trailer loaded with cars apparently blacked out while unloading at the 24th Street Marine Terminal in National City, and his cab ended up in San Diego Bay, authorities said.
John Gilmore, a spokesman with the San Diego Unified Port District, said the driver told paramedics he lost conciousness. When the driver came to, his cab was submerged. The driver was able to open a cab window and swim out, Gilmore said.
National City police said the driver was taken to a hospital.

Two cars that were on the semi-trailer also ended up in the water, police said.

OUCH!!! I would think that Blue Beacon is a better way to wash your truck. I hate to think of the mess that poor guy will go through.

Does blacked out and lost conciousness really mean he just fell asleep while driving?

I can't even begin to fathom the horror you would have to feel when one second you are on good solid sturdy ground, and then you're submerged in water, and having to break out of your truck, and swim just to stay alive.... and not even knowing what happened because you blacked out.
