Deputy injured after semi truck fire

Deputy injured after semi truck fire
1/4/08

Chippewa Herald, WI
Quote:
BLOOMER — A Chippewa County Sheriff’s deputy was injured after a reported semi truck fire on southbound Highway 53, south of Bloomer, late Friday night, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.

The department responded to the call, about three miles south of the Bloomer exit, at 9:33 p.m.

The injured deputy was running traffic control when injured. A Mayo One helicopter was dispatched the scene and air-lifted the deputy to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

As of Friday night, there was no word on the deputy’s identity, condition or the circumstances that led to the injury.

The semi truck on fire was a Wal-Mart truck.

The fire forced authorities to close off southbound Highway 53. A back-up of about a mile was witnessed.

Bloomer Ambulance, Bloomer Police, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department and the State Patrol were among the crews that responded.

A wrecker was called to the scene around 10:15 p.m., and one lane was reopened around 10:54 p.m.

An accident reconstruction was done at the scene.
