Troy truck driver could face charges for deadly wreck

A Troy log truck driver involved in a fiery crash that killed a Florida woman just days before Christmas could face criminal charges for failing to yield the right of way, based on preliminary reports.

Fifty-six-year-old Deborah Ann Fields of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., was killed Dec. 19 when the 18-wheeler she was driving exploded into flames after it collided into the back of the 18-wheeler log truck driven by 26-year-old Dusty Lee Scott Conner on U.S. 231 in Troy, near an intersection across from Conner’s residence in Brantley Mobile Home Park.

A Troy Police Department report that was gathered from evidence on the scene and from eyewitness testimony showed the wreck may have been caused by Conner’s failure to yield the right of way, Troy Police Sgt. Benny Scarbrough said.

The information was provided to the Pike County District Attorney’s office and is expected to be presented to a grand jury, which will determine if any criminal charges will be filed against Conner.
