HOUSTON -- A driver who stopped to help another motorist was injured when an 18-wheeler hit his car, police say.

The accident happened late Tuesday night on the North Sam Houston Parkway.

The truck driver told Houston Police he did not see the stopped vehicle in his lane when he slammed into the back of it.

The car's driver was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. No one else was injured in the accident.

All northbound lanes remained closed until 3 a.m. Wednesday to clean-up an oil spill from the wrecked big rig.
