Truck driver dies in crash on I-65

Truck driver dies in crash on I-65
2/7/08

Quote:
PIKE, Ind. -- A Gary man died this morning in a crash on I-65 in northwestern Boone County.
Medics from Witham Memorial Hospital said Lawrence E. Soff, 55, died at the crash scene.
Soff had tried to merge from the left to right lane, but instead continued to veer from the road and into a ditch, according to a statement from Deputy Chris Burcham, a Boone County Sheriff’s Department spokeman. The crash spilled a small amount Gold Medal flour into the ditch, Burcham said.
Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be involved in the crash, Burcham said, and the cause of death is unknown. Investigators today were attempting to reconstruct the crash.
A Doberman in Soff’s cab survived the crash, and was being held at the Lebanon Street Department until his relatives could pick up the dog.

Sounds like it might be a medical problem like a heart attack or something.

Very sad to hear about, but good news for the traveling buddy.

Thankfully no one else was hurt.

You are correct Roadmedic, He was on my load, I was the broker...He was late for delivery, no answer on his cell phone....DOT called his dispatcher, said he died of an apparent heart attack....very sad day for me. Then the shipper didn't believe me...I had to send him pictures, can you believe it?

Yes, I can. I have dealt with some strange shippers. Their load is more important than a person.

The description of the way the truck moved is what led me to the apparent heart attack. I have been to numerous accidents when I was an active medic and we had to quickly try to figure the injuries when we arrived. We tried to limit on scene time to under 15 minutes.

I hope that you had many faithful deliveries from him in the past and can remember those times.

Good luck and keep your chin up.
