Fatal Truck Crash Shuts Down I-395 Fatal Truck Crash Shuts Down I-395 2/10/08 Hartford Courant, United States Quote: PUTNAM - A tractor-trailer truck driver died in a fiery crash that shut down I-395 for most of the day Saturday after an early morning crash, state police said. The driver was identified Saturday afternoon as Richard Perez, 52, of Franklinville, N.J., state police in Danielson said. Perez was the lone occupant of the truck, which struck a guardrail at about 5 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Exit 86, police said. He lost control and the vehicle rolled into the center median of the highway, where it caught fire. A state trooper tried to pull the driver from the wreckage, but was unable to do so. The troopers was later treated for smoke inhalation, police said. Perez died at the scene. No other cars were involved and no other injuries were reported. Police said the highway was closed in both directions until mid-afternoon.
