| Truck fire leaves driver with minor burns Truck fire leaves driver with minor burns
2/27/08 North County Times, CA Quote:
VALLEY CENTER ---- A truck driver suffered minor burns today when his vehicle caught fire, destroying the truck and causing an oil spill, authorities said.
Firefighters were called at 8:20 a.m. to Rolling Hills Drive, where they found a large Escondido Disposal trash truck on fire in a small grove, Valley Center fire marshal George Lucia Sr. said.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the truck and it did not spread into the grove, Lucia said. The truck, valued at $70,000, was completely destroyed, he said.
The truck's driver suffered minor burns to his hands and was treated and released by paramedics, authorities said. Fire crews also contained an oil spill that occurred when flames melted a large hydraulic oil reservoir on the truck, Lucia said.
A licensed environmental company will handle the final cleanup of the contaminated soil, he said.
An investigation determined that the fire was sparked by an electrical short circuit in the truck's engine, Lucia said. http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2008..._442_26_08.txt | |
