Fatal crash along I-55

Fatal crash along I-55

JOLIET – A truck driver died today when three semi tractor-trailers crashed on Interstate 55, grinding southbound traffic to a halt.

Police said Petar Dimitrovski, 74, of Bridgeview, was driving a semi truck south on I-55 near U.S. 30 about 11:20 a.m. when he failed to slow down for backed-up traffic and slammed into the back of another semi.

Dimitrovski was pronounced dead at the scene, said Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton.

The truck Dimitrovski hit rammed a third, causing a crash that closed the southbound lanes of I-55 for about three hours, state police said.

Traffic had slowed to a crawl because of guardrail work being done near Caton Farm Road, said Illinois State Police Sgt. Scott Angus.

Two of the three semis slowed down. The semi driven by the deceased did not,” Angus said.

Stratton said one of the other truck drivers was taken by ambulance to Bolingbrook Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The third truck driver refused treatment, Stratton said.

Southbound I-55 traffic was routed off the interstate at U.S. 30, then back on, to avoid the crash site while emergency personnel worked. http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/h...AL_WEB.article
