Rescue Crews Search for Tow Truck Driver

Rescue Crews Search for Tow Truck Driver Swept Away by Flood Waters, in Southeast Shelby County, Tennessee

4/1/08
Quote:
SOUTHEAST SHELBY COUNTY, TN – A dive team is on standby as rescue crews search for a tow truck driver, who was swept away by flooding while trying to get a car out of a ditch.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the man was on a call to a car stuck in a ditch on East Holmes Road, just east of Reynolds in Southeast Shelby County. Investigators say the tow truck driver was on top of the car, trying to put a hook on it, when the weight of the car shifted in the rapid flood water. The driver fell off of the car when it started to float along the ditch, according to investigators.
Investigators say the car was found in a culvert, but the tow truck driver has not been seen since he fell of the car.

A spokesperson for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says it is unknown at this time if divers will be able to go in to the water, because of strong currents.
