S-curve claims another big rig

S-curve claims another big rig
4/6/08
Laurel Leader Call, MS -
Emergency officials responded to a late afternoon crash in Laurel’s infamous S-curve Saturday.
The crash, which involved an 18-wheeler, occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday in the Northbound lane of Interstate 59.
The truck, which landed on its side short of the Beacon Street on-ramp covered the shoulder and one lane of the highway.
Because of the site of the crash, one of the northbound lanes of I-59 was closed. However, the Beacon Street on-ramp traffic was not disrupted.
Laurel Police Department responded to the crash, along with firefighters from the Laurel Fire Department and personnel with EMServ Ambulance Service.
Sgt. Taletha Winston with the Police Department said only one victim was involved.
Medical personnel treated the driver of the truck on the scene for head injuries. He was later transported to South Central Regional Medical Center for further treatment and evaluation.
Winston said the victim is believed to have non-life threatening injuries.
She said the 18-wheeler he was driving did not contain any hazardous material.
“Right now we are continuing to investigate the accident,” she said. “We know that there was nothing hazardous.”

I've been on that section of I-59 many a trip. The curves with the "Whoop-d-doos" in the middle of them can mess you up in a heartbeat. Of course the idiots in "Smaller vehicles" ripping, runing, changing lanes, slamming on brakes and such in front and around you don't help......

That driver must not have been through there before. (Or forgot about the curves and road condition)

That driver had a death wish. HUGE warning signs, and a reduced Speed Limit for ALL traffic. Posted long before the curve.

They are in the process of reducing the curvature of it, so it shouldn't be a problem in the future.

Where is this at? I don't think I've ever been through there. Something to keep in mind for a later date.
