Fatality closes Highway 138

CAJON PASS — One motorist was killed in a Wednesday morning crash involving a big rig on Highway 138, just west of Interstate 15, officials reported.

The driver of a big rig attempted to make a right turn from I-15 onto Highway 138 at an unsafe speed when he hit another big rig according to California Highway Patrol Officer Dale Witham.

Neither drivers have been identified, however, the driver making the turn, 50, from Norwalk was found dead at the scene officials said. The other driver, 54, is from Beaumont was air lifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center officials said.

Eastbound Highway 138 was closed at Highway 2 in Wrightwood. The CHP also asked Caltrans to close the I-15 offramp to Highway 138.
Closures were expected to last until 1:30 p.m.

The first reports came in at 9:43 a.m. Wednesday and by 10:30 a.m. as many as 15 California Highway Patrol units were on scene. Officials requested a coroner’s unit.
