Unhappy Careless driving in NJ

I'm new to this stuff, but I just need to vent. My son was in a minor accident in NJ...in fact he didn't really know it WAS an accident ...he had stopped to get reefer fuel, and couldn't go left as he needed to, so he went right trying to find a place to get going back the way he came..he thought he jumped a curb, but lo and behold, here come the police...they ticketed him for 5 violations....2 for being overweight on a weight limited street...2 different streets, in fact...careless driving, leaving the scene, and failure to report...he is using Jim Kleppers company for representation...I'm worried sick over this...almost in heart attack mode...its his first violation...he supposedly hit a light pole..but like I said, he thought he just jumped a curb...I guess this violation can cause him to lose his license...does anyone have an opinion on Interstate Truckers, LTD as representation? I sure hope they can help him...he's a new driver...since Jan of this year..and it's his first offense ever. Is there any hope for him? Any feedback would be appreciated...thanks in advance.

Mom, I understand your concern for your son. But it still doesn't excuse your son from driving the way he did. I'm sorry you have to go through this but imagine. "What If"? He had hit somebody and killed them. Then it would have been on a whole new different level.

As parents we want the best for our kids. I do understand that. But in this case he really should have pulled over and asked for help. It would seem he was disoriented somewhat. Correct me if I'm wrong. Please do.

I'm sure he didn't plan this. Bad words, but somehow he got disoriented to the point he probably didn't know were he was. Rules are put in effect for a reason. Staying focused is the driver's part. I'm sure others on here would agree with me.

Having driven in NJ it is tough to say.

First part is.... He was getting fuel and then was forced to make a right hand turn? Something missing here. Truck stops have lots of room for turning. If he didnt stop at a truck stop, then why was he even there? Refers stay cold for 6 hours, so even if he ran out of fuel, he had a 6 hour window for refuel.

Getting off onto side streets can be worse. You declared it may have been a curb. You would be surprised as to what you can pull that trailer over and think it was only a curb. The light pole is very easy to destroy.

This is a tough job. NJ seems to make it tougher. Good luck to your son and to you.

I am wondering why there are two "replies" to a post that is almost two years old?
