Dump Truck driver charged Dump Truck driver charged in death of Hilliard crossing guard 5/20/08 Columbus Dispatch, OH Quote: The driver of a dump truck that struck and killed a Hilliard crossing guard and seriously injured an 8-year-old boy last month has been charged with vehicular homicide and seven other misdemeanors, police said at a 1 p.m. news conference. The most serious charge against George K. Watkins, 40, is vehicular homicide, a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. He also is charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter, two counts of failure to yield to pedestrians, and one count each of failure to obey a school guard, assured clear distance and having an overweight truck. Hilliard Police Chief Rodney Garnett said the decision to charge Watkins with misdemeanors was based on the facts that no drugs or alcohol were found in his system, no evidence could be found that he was using a cell phone or was otherwise distracted, and his estimated speed was 24 mph in a 20 mph school zone. http://www.columbusdispatch.com/live...k.html?sid=101
