Victims Angered By Crash Settlement

Victims Angered By Crash Settlement

7/22/08

Quote:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A lawsuit against a trucking company whose driver was accused of falling asleep at the wheel has been settled, and the outcome may be surprising.

Video: Crash Settlement Angers Victims

The case began when a truck loaded with Honda parts slammed into gas pumps at a market in Christiana three years ago.

But after three years, Myra Pruitt still struggled to talk about her husband, Sammy Pruitt. He was killed while pumping gas.

Falling asleep at the wheel is not a moving violation in TN, so the driver has a clean MVR after being the cause of a fatality? He got another trucking job after the accident.

The coverage told one side, and put trucking and big business a bad light. What do we expect of broadcast journalism?

Unfortunately, ANYTIME a trucker falls asleep at the wheel, causing injury and/or death, broadcast journalism needs very little help casting the trucking profession in a bad light.

I just wonder what were the circumstances that caused this horrible accident?
Possible sickness? Lack of medication? Taking meds that made him drowsy? Or just plain driving when he should have been resting......

I might get flamed for this one ....but here goes....How is falling asleep at the wheel not a moving violation???? If you fall asleep at the wheel whether driving a semi or a car you are at fault. Now granted I will give that since this was a truck there could of been other facters that come to play, but ultimately you are resposible when driving any vehicle.

You'd think so huh? But there it is plain as day. Falling asleep at the wheel is not a crime in Tennessee. He kills someone and his MVR remains clean? He gets to get another job driving trucks?
