3 die in head-on crash between car and semi-truck in Peoria

Reported by: Brent Roulier

A northwest Valley roadway is open Wednesday morning after a head-on collision between a semi-truck and car killed three people and injured a fourth Tuesday night.

It happened at about 6:30 p.m. on State Route 74, west of Lake Pleasant Road in Peoria.

A Department of Public Safety official said a car traveling west on SR 74 was trying to pass another car, when it crossed the median and hit a semi-truck traveling eastbound.

The three people inside the car died at the scene.

The driver of the semi, which was carrying gravel, was taken to a Valley hospital with injuries. DPS did not know the extent of his injuries, but said he’s expected to survive.

SR 74 was closed in both directions as DPS investigated the accident.

The three people killed appeared to have been tourists visiting from Eastern Europe, according to officials.
