9-Vehicle crash shuts down part of I-40

A traffic crash triggered by heavy rain and involving as many as nine vehicles closed a section of westbound Interstate 40 for more than 4.5 hours Tuesday 07/22/08.

The crash happened about 1 pm at mile marker 203 near Biscoe, Ar when a westbound vehicle tried to pull to the shoulder during a hard rainstorm, according to Bill Sadler, spokesman for the Arkansas State Police.
In doing so, that vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle, and that resulted in a chain reaction crash.

The crash involved six tractor-trailer rigs, and three cars, according to the chief of the local volunteer fire department. As a result of the crash, a fire burned many of the vehicles to a pile of ash.
