C'mon Ron, you know it's not THAT bad. Smarter than 99.96% maybe, though.

Actually, the real issue is simple lack of research (to take this in a more serious direction) Joe Reporter has shown an increasing tendency to blow off research in favor of getting the story "to the presses" more quickly. The few times I've seen them called on it, (mis-labeling things, in particular) they go on about "public perception" and "common use".

Complete and utter BS. You might get away with that kind of argument if you are discussing conversational English, but in professional communication - which is what the news is supposed to be - correct identification is imperative.

It's so annoying to realize that people who communicate as the most essential part of their job just don't seem to understand that words have specific meanings.

I know - it doesn't bother most people, but it drives me nuts. To the point where I don't watch the news, and I don't read (most) newspapers. In general, I stay the heck away from the "popular press".

Can't say that I miss it, much.

That's it in the nutshell Lurch. Journalists used to research the story and report the facts. Now it's about "The Skew". How many stories have to add in weather related disasters the relation to "Man-made" Global Warming? What about when the economy sours and the effect on the "poor "undocumented workers"? It's not the news any more but rather the "SKEWS".
