Governor wants answers about Turnpike mess

Governor wants answers about Turnpike mess
8/8/08
Quote:
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Gov. Joe Manchin wants to know why motorists on the West Virginia Turnpike were left stranded in gridlocked traffic for hours after a fatal tractor-trailer accident near the Chelyan exit.
Manchin has ordered the state Parkways Authority - which runs the 88-mile Turnpike - to conduct a full investigation on the accident and how traffic can move more smoothly if something like it happens again.
Manchin is chairman of the authority, but usually his deputy chief of staff, Joe Martin, sits in on the meetings.
Lara Ramsburg, Manchin's spokeswoman, said the governor called Parkways Authority General Manager Greg Barr on Wednesday.
