Tires fly off truck, killing van driver Tires fly off truck, killing van driver 8/15/08 Philadelphia Daily News, PA Quote: A New Jersey motorist was killed and his wife injured yesterday on Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia after a pair of rear wheels on a tractor trailer blew off the truck and struck their vehicle. State police said truck driver Willie Benjamin, 40, of Washington, D.C., was headed southbound on I-95 near Broad Street and the Walt Whitman Bridge shortly before 4 p.m. when a pair of connected tires shot from his truck, flew into the northbound lanes and crashed into a silver minivan. The minivan's driver died shortly after the accident; his wife remained hospitalized last night. Police would not name them, but TV news reports identified them as Maurizio and Laura Bertoli, of Keansburg, N.J. Police said Benjamin was cooperating with the investigation and had expressed regret over the incident. The person should of not used the words "blew off" making it seem like a tire blew out.. this allows for the for readers to twist the actual truth of the matter where the bearing most likely failed causing the tandems to "break" off... either way sorry this man lost his life over it...
