A champion truck driver gets the boot

A champion truck driver gets the boot

OREGON
Quote:
At this week's 71st annual National Truck Driving Championships in Houston, legendary five-axle and auto-transporter jockeys will compete to find out who's best at snuggling up to a loading dock or negotiating an obstacle course.
They won't, however, be tested on their ability to dodge Oregon meth heads at freeway speed. As Bryan Bauman, the state's five-axle champ, just discovered, that skill gets you booted from the driving rodeo, not invited to the victory stand.
On Aug. 5, Bauman -- who has hauled everything from explosives to shaving cream over the past 18 years -- was westbound on Oregon 11, between Pendleton and Milton-Freewater, when an approaching car crossed the center line.

That's just WRONG!

Quote:
Over the past 18 years, Bauman has logged 2.5 million miles, according to Joe Van Domelen, his boss at Swift Transportation in Wilsonville, the dedicated carrier for Rite-Aid.
I think we need to point out that this driver runs for Swift. In the spirit of fairness (for all the teasing we give Swift drivers here on the boards), the fact that they have a champion driver among them really pleases me.

That's just flat out wrong. Obviously, the driver of the car was at fault, so he should be allowed. I don't care who you drive for, that kind of record is awesome! Reading some of the things that these trucking organization do, I'm not so sure that I want to join any of them. Maybe we should all band together and start our own that really stands for the drivers out there!

Not to totally steer this off course, but there is another thread going now about veering off course to miss an oncoming driver in your lane. Apparently this should be added to the reasons not to do it, you will save a life, but miss out on the competition because of some bureaucratic BS.
