| Eastbound I80 Closed in Iowa City Eastbound I80 Closed in Iowa City By Danielle Plogmann Story Created: Dec 1, 2008 at 8:53 PM CST Story Updated: Dec 1, 2008 at 10:06 PM CST IOWA CITY - The State Patrol says eastbound Interstate 80 is closed at Highway 1 in Iowa City because of a wreck. Drivers are being detoured on Highway 1 to Scott Boulevard and then to Herbert Hoover Highway to rejoin the interstate past the wreck site. Authorities say the closure will likely last beyond 10 p.m. Just before the wreck, an Iowa City man says someone driving an SUV sped past him on the westbound shoulder. Before that man could call 911, he says the vehicle had crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into a semi, causing a fire. Authorities say that fire is making cleanup difficult. So far, they have not released the names of anyone involved.
