Stricken trucker crashes rig on I-10 in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. -- A truck driver became ill at the wheel this afternoon and crashed his 18-wheeler in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 between I-65 and the Navco road overpass, police said.
The unidentified driver was taken to Mobile Infirmary in critical conditon, police spokesman Cpl. Charles Bagsby said.

Bagsby said the 62-year-old driver was coming from Mississippi and was stricken about 4:20 p.m. His rig, owned by Yellow Transportation, hit the center barrier and knocked down a light pole, causing lengthy traffic jams in both directions of I-10.
