3/25/09

Quote:
NEVILLE, PA (NBC) - A security camera was rolling when a semi truck tried to take a corner too fast and wound up on its side in Neville, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday.
The rig was hauling cardboard and overturned when the driver failed to make the turn.
The accident happened only a few feet away from a chemical plant that stores dangerous materials.
Police charged the driver with speeding and overturning a vehicle.
The driver was shaken up but not seriously injured.

Unless he had a serious mechanical failure, I'd say it's safe to say that he's looking for a new job..

I pull containers, those same ones just not the same area, filled with cardboard here in Texas. They are always top heavy as they fill those containers with as much as they can. I couldn't imagine taking a corner fast with any loaded container, so hopefully that guy is looking for a new job now. There are lots of drivers here that drive too fast, I've seen more than one at the railyard turn too fast and those things lean way over.
I'm the guy that annoys others, turning real slow, slowing down below speed limit for turns/exits, won't turn on red unless it's clear as far as I can see etc.

Van

Yea, MOST of those containers are top-heavy. He was moving to fast though, that was obvious. Sigh.

We use a couple of containers at the company where I work. They have other product in them, and our drivers are specifically told to be careful! We tell them all the time, they are top heavy, and they will roll very easy.
Some don't heed our instructions. They find out the hard way, and their services are no longer needed after we have to pay for the huge mess they create.
When I say other product, I am saying it isn't cardboard.

Not only top heavy, but it looks to be very front heavy also. The front of the trailer is down on the tandems before the truck even gets into the turn very much.

Those 102" containers loaded to the top with cotton, and using a chassis with the narrow axels for a 96" wide, are also very top heavy.

I'm around container haulers every day that are going in and out of the NY/NJ ports. Most of these guys don't speak much English are chatting away on their phones, weaving in and out of traffic driving old junk rigs and are a major hazard on the roadway. Accidents like this happen every day up in my area.
