Road Crash revives call for thruway

Shamokin Dam: Crash revives call for thruway
3/31/09
Quote:
SHAMOKIN DAM — For the third time in less than 18 months, a truck overturned Monday while making the turn from Route 11 onto Routes 11-15 in Shamokin Dam.
The danger posed by the volume of truck traffic traveling the route remains one of the greatest justifications for the now-stalled Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway, said Shamokin Dam Mayor Joe McGranaghan.http://www.dailyitem.com/0100_news/l...090073756.html

I have been at this very intersection many, many times. It is not so bad. Yes, there are a LOT of trucks through here, but the answer isn't necessarily millions of dollars spent on a highway upgrade. The answer is CAREFUL and SAFE driving by truckers instead of trying to "beat the light".

He deserves a big fat fine. I've run that route a lot of times wit reefers, dry-vans and flatbeds and never had a problem except with orher idiot truckdrives going too fast.

The article says:

Quote:
In Monday’s crash, 24-year-old Lavern Breon, of McClure, pulled from a stoplight at 8:30 a.m. on Route 11 and was in the right lane when he turned left onto Routes 11-15.
The truck, carrying fly ash coal residue, tipped over about 100 yards after the turn. Breon was not seriously injured. He was wearing a seat belt.
According to witnesses, Breon was traveling about 15 to 20 mph when the truck rolled, said Brad Gaugler, a Shamokin Dam police officer.
The truck is owned by J.P. Donmoyer Inc., of Ono, Lebanon County.
So it doesn't seem excessice speed was a factor, maybe he was loaded unevenly, heavy on the right side of his trailer?
