Teen dies after being hit by truck while texting

Quote:

WARRICK CO., IN - A teenage girl is in the hospital Friday morning after being hit by a truck late Thursday night.
The Warrick County Sheriff's Office said 16-year-old Alexis Stewert was hit by a truck on State Road 261 around 11:00 p.m. Thursday.
Deputies said Stewert and three other teenage friends were walking across the road as 66-year-old William Barnett of Newburgh was driving south between Meadow Lane & Sycamore Street. Authorities said Barnett saw the three girls of the girls at the side of the road and moved to avoid them. That's when deputies said Barnett hit Stewert.
The Sheriff's Office reported witnesses told them Stewert was trying to text message someone while crossing the road and did not hear her friends yelling at her to get out of the road.

I don't get it either. Ofcourse I don't get it with driving while yapping on the phone, let alone texting. And that includes big truck drivers as well.

The thing about texting is you don't get a busy signal and can yak away .
My carrier went from Qualcomm to Blackberries . All dispatch and other communication is through e-mail . Convienient -when I get to it . I run hazmat and I'm not pulling over on the shoulder to check an e-mail message .

I just about got hit by a Florilli truck yesterday for that. I was merging out of the rest area and he was coming but a good distance back. Nobody else was around and he just would not move over and almost rearended me before he finally got in the left lane. When he came by me sure enough.... he was texting. I usually control myself but this guy pissed me off so i let him have it on the radio but to no avail he was to chickenshit to reply or had it off anyway. TN has made it illegal to text while driving but i still see people doing it all the time.

The article says" witnesses said Alexis Stewert was texting not the driver and she couldnt hear her friends telling her to get out of the way and the driver moved to avoid them. We must read first and comprehend. The article didnt say the driver was texting.
