Traffic is flowing again on I-20 tonight.
Earlier traffic was jammed up after the accident that happened two miles east of Highway 271 West of Barber Road in a construction zone. Traffic was re-routed for more than seven hours. DPS Troopers said the accident happened around 3p.m.
The force of the crash was so powerful, the motor from this 18 wheeler was pushed into the cab where the driver was trapped inside. Rescue crews worked to pull the the driver of this semi-truck, Phillip Napier, from inside. He was rushed to the hospital, but didn't survive.
Meanwhile crews worked to pry the 18 wheeler napier was driving from the semi truck he slammed into, setting off the pile-up. Traffic was backed up for miles while part of Interstate 20 was closed down.
Drivers who came up on the scene after the crash waited hours for a way through. As they inched past, they caught a glimpse of haz-mat crews working to clean up the scene, efforts that continued for hours.
Those who wanted to head East on the Interstate at 271 found a closed ramp, and were rerouted for a detour.
