| a few weeks ago on i-65 i came upon a crash that had just happend. flatbedder into several cars and a container that were stopped waiting for another crash that happened up the road to be cleared. the 18 burst into flames. the entire thing burned, tractor, trailer, all. the cab was gone completely, and looked like never had a cab on the thing. somewhere in the pile of junk that burned off of the thing, was a driver. i admit i get into a hurry sometimes. i admit i have pushed my luck a time or two. ( not near as much these days). i admit i have "stretched it out" a bit to make a delivery appointment when to load was considered critical to the operation of a customers business. but, again, not so much anymore. people die, and that's a fact. many years of being a street medic, working as a firefighter / medic for the n.h.r.a., and working in the medical field taught me we all die, as will i one day. but not for a load of freight. nobody, 4 wheeler, driver, nobody, should die for a load of freight. these days, i simply refuse to put myself in that position. the title to the old freightshaker has my name on it and nobody else's. i simply, and politely, say NO! |
