Truck Snags Power Lines for 12 Miles

Quote:
BELLEVUE (AP) - Authorities say the driver of a logging truck drove with the boom arm raised, snagging and snapping overhead power lines for about 12 miles in northeast Iowa.

The Jackson County sheriff's office says the driver didn't realize what happened until Bellevue city workers frantically waved him down on Tuesday before he entered the town.

A telephone call to the sheriff's office seeking more information on Wednesday was not immediately returned.

Twelve miles?!?!? And, not one of those wires bull-whipped the cab?!?! I took out a television cable one time, as a "rookie" rookie, and knew I'd done it. It was quite loud, actually.

Talking

During my CDL schooling our teacher told of some local in Maine for having changed his course he would normaly go home. Seems he wrapped wires around the top of the trailer as he went about a mile or so snapping off telephone poles. He tried to make a turn and the truck kept going straight. He would have tried to keep going but the landing gear was now being folded downward and lifting his drives off the ground. When he finally stopped he had accordianed the top of the trailer some 20 feet to the rear. Instructor was allowed on the scene and said that the Gatoraide was dripping like a rain shower off the back of that trailer.

Supposedly the driver had been driving straight to get home after 20 hours of being on the road.
