the article states the manditory hight is 16' but the sign said 15'4". there is a possibility that the driver did not measure the hieght of the load. or they haev repaved the road and never remeasured the clearance.

I've seen that in many places...they re-pave the road, raising the road bed by a couple of inches, but neglect to change measurements on the signs.

I'd say the driver neglected to measure or wasn't paying attention IMO. As we all know, all overpasses on US Interstates are not at least 16' in clearance. I've lived in this area all my life and they haven't repaved that stretch in quite some time. Also, bridge collisions are rare here but if you're driving through Columbia, be very careful on the ramps because rollovers happen all the time ESPECIALLY around the 26/20 "malfunction junction" area.

Oh yes...this was a recent treat for me in LA.

Made a right hand turn onto the "business" route. Saw the 13'6" clearance ahead sign. Proceeded all the way to the NEW sign posted ON the bridge. 13'3"

And a fresh patch of new asphalt, under the bridge
