Truckers killed in I-40 crash near Russellville, Ark., identified

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The two truckers killed in a collision on Interstate 40 near Russellville in western Arkansas have been identified. The Arkansas State Police say 52-year-old Debbie Harrell of Shiloh, N.C., and 40-year-old Ramzi Bidas of Baton Rouge, La., died in the accident just before 6:30 a.m. Monday, The Associated Press reported.

The two were in a 2010 Freightliner hauling vegetables and had to swerve to avoid a 2010 Ford pickup truck that had stopped on the interstate because of a previous accident. The Freightliner hit the Ford and the impact apparently ruptured a fuel tank, state police said. The Freightliner burst into flames as it rolled onto its side and slid down an embankment.

The pickup’s driver, Randall Vire, 45, of Clarksville saw the Freightliner approaching and “jumped from his vehicle and ran away from the initial crash scene,” state police spokesman Bill Sadler told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Hopefully they cite the pickup driver. This is why it is the law to move accident vehicles off the interstate.
