Hi, I'm new and have a question. My husband just got fired from his first trucking job....he was there for 14 months. He was in NJ for the first time, late at night and hit an unmarked low bridge. He has applied to several trucking companies and nobody will hire him because of this wreck. Is there any hope of him ever being hired again and if so, how do we find a company that will give him a chance.
    Thank You.

I sincerely doubt the bridge was unmarked.
    Maybe, but not likely.
His best bet is to photograph the bridge, it's approaches and use that as documentation. However, it shows a lack of judgement that he would hit the bridge, even if unmarked. After 14 months, I would expect my drivers to recognize a potential hazard, stop and check it out.
He may end up having to go to a 'training' company for 6 months or so to prove he is a decent driver. Then other companies will likely take a chance.

the companies everyone is always complaining about likely have the highest turnover rate, and the hardest time finding enough drivers. but thats for good reason. he likely wont be very happy with them. but if he can stick it out for 6-12 months with a less than reputable company (like crst or cr england for instance) hed likely have a better chance with better companies after having some experience without incident.

Not only are they published as a low clearance they are on a known restricted route. The two go together.

Hitting a bridge not only does extensive damage to a truck, you are looking at serious money when a company has to pay for bridge repairs. If a driver is a proven high risk liability it will be difficult to get back in the seat with little experience.

His best bet is an owner operator with a few trucks that will give him a chance since he has 1 year experience. Look on Craigslist. I've had local dump truck driving jobs with small outfits that don't even do the required background checks. One asked me if I had my CDL... "Yes".... "you're hired", lol. Didn't even ask to see my license.

Where in Jersey, on what road? Some of us run that area extensively, and STILL don't know all the low clearance locations. Trust me, there are quite a few that don't appear in the atlas.

When the urge to duck hits you it's time to stop and inch up to that bridge while hanging out the window.
