That's some scary stuff. Condolences to the dead driver and his family. Hope everyone else recovers, thought it wont be easy.

This is exactly why I bump the cruise down when big trucks pass at a slower speed and why I keep my distance good. It's any wonder these drivers had a chance. I noticed on some new trucks they have a door on the sleeper for what I would assume an emergency exit. If you rear end a big truck or get in something like this and you have a fire ball, chances are you're either trapped between the dash, the doors are unable to open and you have to get out quick. Maybe they should look into not only mandating better occupancy protection in a crash, but an alternate route for a driver or co-driver to escape in a crash.

This is the reality that it can happen to any one of us.

Back in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s most conventional cab trucks had the sleeper door. never did understand why they quit putting it on them? Never seen them on cabovers much but most conventionals had them.

Wow. The lead driver was cited for going under the minimum speed. THAT doesn't happen too often. I wish they'd get some of the four wheelers doing the same!
