I had to look up where the White Bird Summit was. This link has some beautiful pictures, it was written by a guy on a bike though. http://bikedave.wordpress.com/2010/06/28/june-27-white-bird-id-to-kooskia-id
I hope the driver didn't know what hit him. RIPblairandgretchen Thanks this. -
R.I.P Driver

I run White Bird hill a lot, I have seen Swift trucks smoke a lot of brakes. It's the chip trucks that scare me. I'm glad there all a lot of runaway lanes for them to go.

From the Idaho State Police blog:
"INCIDENT NARRATIVE: The driver was traveling Northbound up Whitebird Grade and towards the top he struck the guardrail and went off the right shoulder. The cab of the truck became fully engulfed in flames. The driver succumbed to his injuries. The driver information will be released later pending next of kin notification. " It was a 2013 Volvo. RIP driver. Any one know what could have happened? Is this a hilly area? Do you think he/she may have fallen asleep at 0230? Really sad news. -
RIP.
Please take note, all wannabe and new drivers.
